I came across this pic of Carrie Brownstein and it was too cool not to do a little homage to indie rock’s most underrated guitarist (and song writer/musician/actor etc). Sleater Kinney are probably best known as being a indie-punk-pop-rock all-grrl 90s/noughties band, featuring an interplay of vox and guitar between Carrie and Corin. Their tunes are awesome…with perhaps the exception of 2019’s release, every single album is all killer, no filler. Carrie’s riff game is strong in every track – and these licks are deceptively tricky. “Words and Guitar” from their ’97 album, Dig Me Out – their breakthrough album – is such an example of riffiness, and describes the band at its core…words, and guitar!
